Meet Suné

My name is Suné and I am an HPCSA-registered Educational Psychologist who has been in private practice since 2011. I work alongside my therapy dog, Mzansi, and I am particularly passionate about incorporating animal-assisted therapy into my work with children through both play therapy and psychotherapy.

I believe that when children are able to play, feel accepted, and experience a sense of safety, meaningful change and healing can take place. I am deeply committed to working with children and their families, as well as supporting schools and teachers.

I established my private practice in 2011 at an independent school in Sandton, Johannesburg, where I worked as part of multidisciplinary teams including teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, remedial therapists, psychiatrists and neurologists. In April 2026, I relocated to George in the Western Cape, where I am now based in private practice.

What is an Educational Psychologist?

An Educational Psychologist is a mental health professional who works at the intersection of psychology, development and education. They assess, diagnose and support to optimise functioning within learning and developmental contexts. An Educational Psychologist works with children and adolescents, focusing on emotional, cognitive, behavioural, social and learning development, including addressing learning barriers and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Educational Psychologists in South Africa are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and may provide formal psycho-educational assessments, diagnose learning disorders such as dyslexia and ADHD, and offer therapy in a variety of evidence-based modalities - with the aim to support children to reach their full potential at school, at home and in life.
